When I was only on holiday in Brisbane, my friend of 30 years casually dropped into conversation that she was upgrading her Private Health to include maternity services. While it initially flew over my head, it really shouldn't have. She was my "I'm never having kids" friend, said proudly since we were in Primary School. However, life has a way of making us change our minds!

Since my visits back home were scheduled around Christmas and school holidays, she had been ever so thoughtful in having a due date in early January. But babies have a way of moving on their own time, and a few days after Christmas, little Elsie was welcomed earthside. She was the smallest baby I have had the pleasure of photographing, at just under 6lb and she was the cutest little thing. I was lucky enough to visit her at Greenslopes Private Hospital for a fresh 48 session when she was just 24 hours old.

We followed up with a sneaky little session a week later on a cheap beanbag from Kmart in her lounge room, some new throw blankets and a couple of wraps and props thrown into my suitcase.  Thankfully, she was a great sleeper, and Mama made a great backdrop stand.

And no family photoshoot is complete without a couple of excited fur babies.

I'm so happy I could be with you for the introduction to this new phase in your life my friend. Marissa xx
